The team, with Zsolt Kalmár and Máté Vida, was able to manage the qualification from the group stage, however, in the round of 16, they were knocked out by eventual winners Serbia.
In July 2015, he was appointed as the head coach of Hungary national football team after the resignation of Pál Dárdai and after the successful play-off his team secured a place at the UEFA Euro 2016. This was the first qualification of the Hungarian national team to a prestige football tournament after the 1986 World Cup and the team had to wait 44 years to be present at EURO again. Despite of this success, the coach has decided not to continue in his work at the club and in October 2019 took over Cercle Bruges.
